PROBLEMS WITH VERB AGREEMENTS (Hòa Hợp Chủ Vị)
I - Động từ chia số ít chủ ngữ ít khi là:
1. N and N $\rightarrow $ nói về 1 người , 1 vật
Adj and Adj + N
ex: My best friend and adviser, Tom is coming tonight.
The black and white cat is eating fish.
2. $\begin{cases}Each \\ Every \\Either \\Neither \end{cases}$ + $\begin{cases}N(số ít) \\ of+N(pl) \end{cases}$
ex: Each of the students has to learn hard.
Neither of the hotels was in good condition.
Each woman and child was taken care of health.
3. S là đại từ bất định:
Somebody, Someone, something, No one, Nobody, Nothing, Everybody, Everyone, Everything + V(số ít)
ex: Someone is knocking at the door, aren't they?
4. One of + Ns + V(ít)
ex: One of my students comes from America
*Note: Câu dùng trong ĐTQH giải thích cho "one of + Ns"
ex: One of the students who are studying ay my class comes from US
5. S - N không đếm được.
furniture, traffic, progress, knowledge, work, homework,...
6. Danh từ tận cùng "s"
_Tên nước , hãng hàng không: Vietnam airlines, The Philippines, The Wales,...
_Một số danh từ khác: news, economics, physics, gynastics, mathematics, politics,...., biliards, borows, daminoes, ..., mumps(quai bị), measles
_Tên thành phố: Athens, Brussels,....
7. S - danh từ tập hợp chỉ vật :
school of fish, park of dog, swarm of mosquitoes, pride of lion, herd of cattle.
ex: A herd of goats is eating grass.
A flock of birds is circling over hed.
8. Many a + N(ít) + V(ít)
Many a letter is lying on her desk.
9. S là 1 cụm từ gồm số ít + N(số nhiều) : Chỉ khoảng cách, thời gian, giá cả, tuổi tác...
ex: Three hours isn't enough for us to finish out assignments.
5 years seems to be a long time for me to live alone in a big city.
10. S- Tên sách, báo , truyện,... ở dạng số nhiều
ex: "The beauty and the Beats was produced by Wall Disney.
11. S là 1 mệnh đề or V-ing or to V
ex: What he said doesn't bother me.
Learning English is very necessary
a host of : vô số, rất đông
II - Động từ chia số nhiều khi S là:
1. N+N: chỉ 2 người, 2 vật
Adj +Adj: những người, những vật với nhau
ex: Water and oil don't mix.
The black and the white cats are on the chair.
2. We/ they/ you = Each of us/them/you
V(nhiều) V(ít)
We each have a map Each of us has a map
3. Chủ ngữ là số đếm >2, tính từ số lượng + of + Ns

ex: Many of pupils like natural science subjects.
Some of the cakes are in bad quality
4. S là "The+Adj" = N

5. S là danh từ ở dạng số nhiều:
trousess beloings
shoes brains
pyjamas earnings
jeans
clothes
_Danh từ luôn số nhiều không có tận cùng là "s" : cattle, police, people, public...
6. S là số đếm (hàng trăm, hàng nghìn,...)
$\begin{cases} hundreds of \\ thousands \\ millions \\ billions \\ dozens \end{cases}$ + of + Ns
ex:Dozens of eggs are taken to market every morning.
7.Kết quả của phép tính +,-,x : thường ở dạng số nhiều:
ex: one plus one are too

8.both...and( as well)
III- Động từ chia số ít hoặc nhiều khi S là :
1.Neither..nor
Either...or
Not only...but also + V ( chia theo S đứng gần nó)
ex: Not only my parent but also my techer is here.
2.S là phân số
Số đếm nếu tử số > 2 thì mẫu số phải thêm "S"

S là phân số + N không đếm được + V (ít)
S là phân số + N đếm được + V(nhiều)
ex: Two fifths of the wine is imported from France.
Hafl of pupils come from England.
* Khi S là phân số không có N phía sau + V( số ít )
ex: A half is enough for me.
3.Khi S là 1 N đi với các cụm từ sau
A long with
N1 + accompanied by + N2 -> V(N1)

ex : Mary,accompanied by her parent,is greeting us wormly.
4.S là N tập hợp chỉ người
- Chỉ chung cả tập thể + V( số ít)
- Những hđ liên quan đến từng cá nhân cụ thể + V(nhiều)
family,group,class,team,goverment,crew,army,....
ex: My family has 4 members
Our club won the championship last year.
Our club are wearing red shirts and white socks today
5, S: the majority
the minority
$\begin{cases}major of \\ minor of \end{cases}$ + $\begin{cases}N(không đếm được) + V (ít)\\ N(đếm được)+ V(nhiều) \end{cases}$
ex: The majority of my pupil are good.
The minority of his money comes from thefts
+ Note : Nếu S : the majority (không có N đằng sau ) + V(ít)

6.S là : The number of + Ns +V(ít)
A number of + Ns= Many +V(nhiều)
7.S là : No + N(ít) + V(ít)
No + N(nhiều)+ V(nhiều)
= None
ex: No pupils want to get bad marks.
No pupit is absent from class today.
No boy and no girl want to be lelf alone at home.
