1. Tăng dần (Gradual increase)
a. Đối với tính từ/ trạng từ ngắn (Short adjectives/ adverbs)
S + V + adj/ adv + ER + and +adj/adv + ER
Ex : The price of petrol gets higher anh higher
Giá dầu càng ngày càng cao
b. Tính từ và trạng từ dài (long adj and adv)
S + V + more and more + adj/ adv
Ex : The cost of living gets more and more expensive.
Giá cả sinh hoạt ngày càng đắt đỏ
2. Giảm dần (Gradual decrease)
S + V + less and less + adj/ adv
Ex : He seems to get less and less attentive.
Anh ấy dường như càng ngày càng lơ đãng
The polar climate gets less and less cold
Khí hậu địa cực càng ngày càng bớt lạnh

1. Tăng dần :
a1. Tính từ/ trạng từ ngắn :
The + adj/ adv +ER + S + V,.......
Ex : The stronger the wind is, the higher the waves get.
Gió càng mạnh, sóng càng cao
The harder he studies, the better he gets.
Anh ấy học càng chăm chỉ, kết quả càng tốt
a2. Tính từ/ trạng từ dài :
the more + adj/ adv + S + V
Ex : The more comfotable the hotel is, the more expensive the rents are.
Khách sạn càng tiện nghi, giá thuê càng đắt
b. Danh từ (with nouns)
The more + noun + S + V
Ex : The more books you read, the more knowledge you can get.
Càng đọc nhiều sách, bạn càng có nhiều kiến thức.
C. Động từ (with verb)
The more + S + V
Ex : The more he earns, the more he wants.
Càng kiếm được nhiều tiền, anh ấy càng muốn hơn
2. Giảm dần
The less + adj/adv/N/V + S + V
Để diễn tả sự giảm dần, chúng ta chỉ cần thêm "the less" vào trước tính từ (cả tính từ ngắn và dài), trạng từ, danh từ hoặc động từ.
Ex : The older people get, the less they want to travel
Khi người ta càng già người ta càng ít muốn đi lại
* The comparative, the better
Ex : The more, the better. (Càng nhiều càng tốt)
The faster, the better. (Càng nhanh càng tốt)
* The comparative, the merrier
Ex : The more crowded, the merrier . (Càng đông càng vui)
